This is a nostalgic IBM ThinkPad X40 laptop.
It currently has a Debian-based Linux OS installed and is working without any issues. Perhaps it's a good match!
I purchased this used about 15 years ago during a period when I was endlessly accumulating PCs. It didn't have an OS when I got it. I'm selling it to declutter, as my family and cat have been urging me to reduce the number of computers I own.
Everything in the photos is included.
The battery charges normally and can power the laptop. I've measured battery life exceeding one hour.
The TrackPoint and keyboard function correctly.
As shown in the photos, it can connect to the internet, and while there are limitations due to the outdated browser, it's still possible to browse some websites.
I was able to listen to music using an external CD drive.
Please refer to the system information in the photos for other detailed specifications.
Although it's old, it's still a Pentium M, and it can manage to play videos with a lightweight Linux distribution, albeit with some difficulty.
Issues:
The scratches and scuffs on the back are unfortunately very noticeable (the rest of the body, except the top cover, isn't as bad).
The surface material is rubbery, so it can't be polished.
You'll probably need to cover it somehow.
However, due to the material, it looks worse in the photos than it is; they are surface scuffs, not deep scratches or cracks.
Being an old machine, its practical use is outdated.
It's currently working, but I cannot guarantee its long-term operation due to it being a precision instrument.
As a bonus, I'm including the original external CD/DVD drive. It's a unique one that connects to a special USB port.
I confirmed that it can play music CDs, but it couldn't play DVD movie software, although it recognized the discs.
It's unclear whether the problem lies with the Linux playback software codecs or the device itself.
Some Linux distribution Live DVDs worked, while others didn't.
Please note that the currently installed OS contains personal information, so I will initialize the HDD before handing it over.
You will need to prepare a separate OS to use it normally.
Please purchase only if you fully understand the above.
Immediate purchase is welcome.
Please allow some time for shipping due to the HDD initialization and other necessary work.
Thank you for looking.
