Polygonia - Da Nao Tian Gong

This new release from Lindsey Wang aka Polygonia, whose previous works from [ara] and [Bembe], as well as her collaborative album with Munich-based percussionist Popp, were all outstanding masterpieces, is inspired by the ancient Chinese epic "Journey to the West" and its central character, Sun Wukong, a familiar figure to Japanese audiences. The four tracks skillfully incorporate a variety of elements, including straight 4/4 beats, broken beats, funk accents reminiscent of post-bass music, phrases that carve out intoxicating polyrhythms, and phrases that subtly evoke Orientalism. Her rich sense of color is a key weapon, making the music both highly danceable and engaging for listening. This time again, you can enjoy a very high level of techno expression. Highly recommended.
