The women’s Classic Cortez STR LTR ‘Beautiful x Powerful’ released in December 2016 as part of a larger collection celebrating the power of female athletes. This refreshed take on the Cortez features an all-black, all-leather build, mounted atop a matching black foam midsole with a high-traction herringbone outsole. The collection’s tagline – ‘There is no finish line’ – is printed on the sockliner of the left show and "Joan Benoit Samuelson's" signature is printed on the sockliner of the right shoe. The Nike Cortez was originally created by American track and field coach Bill Bowerman and was designed to be a running shoe. It made history in 1972 as it became one of the most popular running sneakers ever thanks to its unrivalled cushioning. The current collection continues to use the classic silhouette whilst further advancements have been made regarding the comfort and cushioning technology.
