Nigel Cabourn - 70's Mountain Pile Jacket
The material is 100% cotton pile, but it's a "Russell pile" fabric, which is a warp-knitted pile. Warp knitting, as the name suggests, is a structure where loops are continuously knitted in the vertical direction. It has less stretch than weft knitting, with elasticity somewhere between fabric and weft-knitted knitwear. Because the knit is more stable than weft knitting, it results in a three-dimensional silhouette when made into a product.
