John Baldessari

A collection of works by the American artist John Baldessari. These bold collages on black and white photographs affixed to canvas are simple yet have a strong impact, and I think they have a stylish style. Most collages add color to the black and white, finishing them with a chemical atmosphere, but this person completely covers them from above and paints them over with color. The anonymity is even greater than the original, and the difference in the contrast is so intense that you get a strong feeling of wanting to see the black and white parts even more. The fact that a single difference creates a big difference and changes the impression of the work 180 degrees is his invention. I think he seems to be creating questions for the photographs and turning them into works, as if he were creating a quiz. Even so, each of the works is too large when viewed in exhibition photos. It would be an incredible impact if I actually saw them. I hope to encounter them someday.
